NEWSFLASH: TVI Express HQ in Bangalore India raided by police, 2 arrested

IndiaTimes reports:

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/bangalore/2-held-for-taking-many-for-a-ride/articleshow/9241742.cms

BANGALORE: Central Crime Branch arrested two partners of a multi-level marketing company in Wilson Garden for cheating several persons including software engineers by promising them time-share holidays at posh resorts and hotels abroad. In MLM schemes, a member has to enrol a certain number of new members before he becomes eligible for benefits.
Mohammed Nayeem and Ramiz Ashraf Vani, both from Baramulla in Jammu & Kashmir, opened a travel agency called Travels Venture International Express (TVI Express) at Hara House Building in JAT Street off Hosur Road about two years ago. Through their company website, they offered customers annual holiday packages abroad for just Rs 15,500.
CCB found they'd cheated people to the tune of Rs 2 crore. "We're questioning them to find the volume of business across India. We're going through their hard disk and online transactions," an investigating officer said.
The scam came to light when the duo tried to fob off customers with excuses. Once they enrolled a member, they set new conditions of eligibility for accommodation," police claimed.
"They tried to evade customers and when some got suspicious, they approached the police. The company made fake offers with an intent to cheat," said a CCB officer. Both are remanded to police custody.

Who the Heck is Tom McMurrain and Why Was He Pushing TVI Express?

A website called "Secrets2Business" have an article on TVI Express.

But who wrote it? A guy named Tom McMurrain, who wrote a book "From ExCon to ExCaliber".

Both websites linked are dead. So who the heck is Thomas E. McMurrain? Turns out, he really is an ex-Convict. What did he went to jail for? Running a Ponzi Scheme... just like TVI Express. Here's the report:
THOMAS E. MCMURRAIN, 37, formerly of Atlanta, Georgia, pleaded guilty today to four counts of a federal indictment on charges of mail fraud and wire fraud. ...
Between 1997 and the end of October 2000, MCMURRAIN obtained over $9,000,000 from 80 investors. In the end, the vast majority of the investors received only monthly interest payments which totaled $1,600,000 over 1997-2000. MCMURRAIN only paid back about $200,000 in principal. The remaining investors never received their principal back.
MCMURRAIN never disclosed to investors that his pay day loan operations were running at a loss. Nor did he disclose that he was using their monies to invest in any other non-pay day loan operations, including loans totaling $700,000 to other MCMURRAIN's companies, as well as uncollateralized loans to friends and acquaintances without collateral. Additionally, MCMURRAIN did not disclose to lenders that he spent and lost $600,000 of their monies on personal day trading and expended another $700,000 on personal life style purchases.
The United States Attorney's Office, Northern District of Georgia
cited from http://www.thepanamanews.com/pn/v_16/issue_10/economy_02.html

Name matches, crime matches, even the self-reference to "Ex-Con" matches. And if you still doubt it, here's the indictment archived on someone else's website

Furthermore, when the scheme unraveled, he ran off the Panama, and had to be extradited. Here's his entry on FraudDigest
On October 12, 2005, Thomas E. McMurrain was sentenced in federal district court in Atlanta, Georgia, to 87 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution of $7,500,000. McMurrain was convicted of mail fraud and wire fraud related to a loan fraud scheme. McMURRAIN pleaded guilty to the charges on May 12, 2005.
Assuming he started serving the sentence in 2005, and serve half of 87 months for good behavior and early release, half of 87 is still 43 months, or over 3 and a half years... That would make his release in... 2009 or so.

So he immediately joined TVI Express, a very obvious pyramid scheme 8-ball scam...

Guess a leopard really can't change its spots.

Some Classic TVI Express Weasel Reviews

Former Governor (now California Attorney Gener...Image via WikipediaWhen TVI Express was red hot, people write all sorts of reviews about TVI Express, using whatever contrived excuses they can find to somehow convince you that they should be your upline into TVI Express (so you can make him or her rich). Some marketing coach (often with fancy names, like "law of attraction trainer") also used TVI Express to attract "trainees".

Welcome to another episode of TVI Express Weasel Reviews, where we track down marketing weasels who claims to "review" TVI Express, but instead want to sell you their "secrets to success".

Today's highlight is on http://www.zingarticles.com/Art/99986/24/TVI-Express-Review-Ground-Floor-Opportunity-or-Scam.html by Anita Koch. Does it review TVI Express and give you an informed opinion backed by facts? Let us find out.

Beginning: not very good

Ms. Koch started by comparing TVI Express with Your Travel Biz (YTB).

YTB was proven to be a pyramid scheme by California's Attorney General Jerry Brown, successfully sued, and forced to revamp its operations, in 2009. Thus, citing YTB as a successful MLM in the travel biz raises two questions: does Ms. Koch even KNOW about YTB's problems? Or did she deliberately neglect to mention it?

As this article was posted March 2010, well after YTB's problem came to light, one must conclude that Ms. Koch either did not do any research and relied on some marketing material, or she deliberately left out this "problem".

Makes you wonder what else she will neglect to mention...

Middle: Factual, but no conclusion drawn

Ms. Koch then explained the compensation structure, but instead of relying on company line, she actually did some math and shows you how much money TVI Express takes in, and how much it pays back out.
Ms. Koch even admits that two items makes no sense: residual income, and "commission pay till infinity".
She concludes with the following paragraph:
Since Travel Ventures International is a travel company, where does the travel part come in? You don''t get paid for helping people to go on trips. Although the TVI website shows pictures of exotic locations, there is no description of how the travel services actually come into play other than travel vouchers.
So even she admits there seems to be no product.

Ending: disappointing half-weasel answer

Ms. Koch was doing so well with her analysis. Unfortunately, she decided to weasel out at the end and gave a less than definite answer. She cited Wikipedia on Ponzi scheme twice, but stopped short of called TVI Express a scam. Instead, she gave this answer:
You have to make your own decision as to what MLM company you want to be associated with. Wikipedia defines Network Marketing as a "structure designed to create a marketing and sales force by compensating promoters of company products not only for sales they personally generate, but also for sales of other promoters they introduce to the company." Is it honestly Network Marketing if there is no product or service?
She clearly wants to IMPLY that TVI Express is a shady operation, but she somehow can't say it. Instead, she used the opportunity to segue into her "success coaching" business in the next paragraph.
Well, that is a HALF weasel answer. Not as much weasel as the other examples shown, but definitely "half" weasel.

Dismantling yet ANOTHER Rudy Phan's Tviexpressdollar.com lie: TVI Express and Ponzi scheme

Crane Paper Company in Dalton produces the pap...Image via WikipediaRudy Phan loves to redefine truth in order to somehow prop up TVI Express. Previously he had redefined borders of London, left out a largest expense in TVI Express and use that as evidence to "prove" TVI Express can pay lots of money, claim TVI Express is halal even though he has no qualifications, claim TVI Express is NOT MLM directly against tviexpress.com wordings, claim it only takes 8 people to cycle out when it takes 14, and much more. Today, we will bust ANOTHER one of his lies: he claims TVI Express is NOT a Ponzi scheme. His article can be found here.

So what are his reasons supporting his hypothesis that TVI Express is NOT a Ponzi Scheme?
First of all, we need to realize that this ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment scheme. While TVI Express is not an investment, but business network. Therefore, there are no guarantees and certainty the time when a person or when a turnover to $ 10,000.
What Rudy Phan have done here is narrowed in on the words "fraudulent investment scheme", and claim "TVI Express is not investment!". Rudy Phan fails to notice that TVI Express operating model is later members funding earlier members, and that is the fundamental nature of a Ponzi scheme. Rudy Phan cannot disprove this, so he plays "word game" instead.

Furthermore, in a business transaction, you do work, you get paid. That is nature of business. You can suffer losses, fail to collect debt, bad customers, product shrinkage, and other costs, but those can be anticipated. However, what Rudy Phan said here is when you join TVI Express, you may not actually make $10000 (even if you do everything they ask of you). Is he describing a lottery or a business?

Some MORE lies from TVI Express members

This is a letter, published by TVI Express downline in Taiwan, was dated June 2009. It allegedly came from a Mr. Goyal, their TVI Express upline from India. The problem is this letter is in Chinese, which was translated from original English. So retranslating it back to English is going to sound silly, but the general meaning should be clear. You can read the whole thing here, I'll just pick out some of the more egregious lies...

The background of the company is very strong, includes a financial management company with over 50 years of history, a glass product factory in Italy, and casino / resort in England. It has enjoyed leadership position in travel industry for many years. In late June, a main office will open in New Delhi, India. In July office will open in Hong Kong, and Shenzhen China.
As we all know, there still is no office in Hong Kong, no office in China. Nobody ever found out what "financial management company", the casino/resort, or glass factory in Italy that they may be referring to. In fact, these supposedly ties were never mentioned anywhere else.

We (and you) must join this enterprise in the pre-launch phase. This is the key to our future success. In any MLM, only those who join at the very beginning, can earn big money. This business is completely global (over 50 countries around the world), and cooperates with an internationally known related business.
The problem here is they are telling you the truth... ONLY the early joiners will make money, that for sure. But what they mean by global is they have MEMBERS in 50+ countries.
基本投資金額不高,只須新台幣9,500元、19000元或是28500元,全看個人的需要。
Basic investment is low, only NTD 9500, or 19000, or 28500, depending on individual needs.

NOTE: 9500 is joining once. 19000 is joining twice, and 28500 is joining four times. 9500 NTD is roughly $290 USD, the standard "TVI Express" membership + some fees.
The best thing is 80% of your initial investment will be returned in a few weeks, and you can get many benefits, such as free 5-day trip to Banghkok (including all tax, plane ticket, 5-star hotel accommodations, and meals, absolutely no extra expenses)
Includes meals? Only 80% return?
TVI Express提供給你的福利沒有任何灌水,也不會隱瞞、限制或誤導顧客,一切都是透明化的。
TVI Express benefits to you is not inflated, and there is nothing hidden, restricted, or misleading. Everything is transparent.
We all knew how *this* promise turned out.

The 5-star hotel? Turned into 3-5 stars.
Meals? What meals?
Redemption? Impossible to do so until June 2010, 12 months later.
No extra expense? Includes all taxes? Try $150 for "taxes and processing fees"

What lies are TVI Express members telling now in order to score a few more recruits?
Enhanced by Zemanta

Tarun Trikha: the liar

Do you know what Tarun Trikha promised back in June 2009 for TVI Express members in China?

TVI Express offices in Hong Kong and China.

Here's the Chinese TVI Express member's blog entry, dated June 24, 2009. They had a 50-minute video conference with Tarun Trikha in a hotel. In the meeting, Tarun Trikha said...
"2. The company will choose to establish subsidiaries in Hong Kong;
3. China office set up, has been under planning."
I did not say this. TVI Express member in China did.

If you go to TVI Express website now, you will find that TVI Express has NO office in Hong Kong, and no office in China, 14 months later. Closest office is in INDIA.

So who's lying? TVI Express member in China? Or Tarun Trikha?

In fact, you will find that China is catching plenty of TVI Express members... for promoting a pyramid scheme. Here's just one of many reports:

http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.daynews.com.cn%2Fscdb%2Flb%2F921863.html&sl=zh-CN&tl=en

Tarun Trikha will likely respond that it wasn't his fault that TVI Express changed their marketing plans, if someone ever catches him and ask him these questions.

TVI Express: people are STILL losing interest

And the proof of people losing interest on TVI Express is right on their own website.

Alexa ranking is now 9200's, another drop from 8000's just last week. And that's last 3 month average. The actual traffic rank in last 30 days is in the 12000's range.

Quantcast shows steady dip of traffic since January. http://www.quantcast.com/tviexpress.com

Folks, TVI Express is "over the top", because most people have already realized it is a scam and have abandoned it. Now they're so desperate to whip up new members, they are launching "conventions", hoping to "inspire" their existing members to recruit more losers so their existing members can become winners.

And where are they launching these conventions? Places full of poor people. Brunei, Phillipines, Indonesia, Vietnam, and so on. Previously, they were in Thailand, India, China, and so on. Many members even claim they are "changing lives", when TVI Express only promised 'touching lives'.

Are you really going to join a business where only 0.48% of members will earn money, and NOTHING YOU DO can change those odds?

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Another TVI Express member realized he'd been suckered

He was so excited, he joined, then he realized the whole thing went nowhere. Nothing happened. Nobody had the same enthusiasm he did. He was blinded by greed, but sucked in by his friend "Bob", and joined without "due diligence".

http://scottwagstaffonline.com/tvi-express-touching-lives-globally/

"I tried the same approach as everyone else and had no luck getting people to sign up into my business.  It seemed that everyone I talked too had the same concern, it just sounds too good to be true!"

The SHOCKING TRUTH TVI Express members do not realize

No, it's NOT that it is a scam. That's obvious, and irrelevant to most members.

The fact is your chance of getting that $10000 credited to your eWallet (and let's NOT EVEN talk about getting that money OUT of your eWallet and into your REAL wallet), is roughly, 0.48%.

And there are NOTHING you can do to improve your odds of earning money.

Why? Let us take a look again at TVI Express compensation package.

1) You have to cycle out of the traveller's board/matrix/whatever. That's like 14 people below you, right?

2) You have to then cycle out of the express board/matrix/whatever. Again, 14 people below you.

Now, do the math. How many people below you TOTAL? It's NOT 14. It's 14 squared. Why? Everybody below you also needed 14 below each of them to cycle THEM out of their own traveller's board/matrix/whatever.

Add that to your original 14, and you get 15x14 = 210.

Invert that, and you get 0.00476, or roughly 0.48%. That is your chance of success.

Or in other words: out of every 200 people in TVI Express, less than 1 will get that $10000.

And you CANNOT improve your odds at all. Because there is NOTHING that you actually sell to make money. All you do is recruit. The only thing you can do is accelerate the process, by recruiting more people. But that does NOT improve your odds.

Remember TVI Express FAQ: "you do not need to sell any products." "You need to recruit two people, and tech each how to recruit two more people."

The odds are fixed. All you can do is expand the pool of losers, to enlarge the pool of winners.

Think about that.

TVI Express Members: very good at leaving out facts

TVI Express members seem to be very good at leaving out facts. Either they are ignorant (simply unaware of these facts) or they are willfully developing a blindspot toward the facts. Here's Mr. John Piro's website, and how he neglected to mention a lot of acts.

You can see Mr. Piro's website at http://tvioptin.weebly.com/  It's just a couple videos he borrowed from TVI Express (hey, where DID they say you can copy this?) plus a webcam style appeal to you. However, we'll concentrate on the text. I'll put my comments in RED.

So lets recap on the key facts here

what you get for your $250 :

* private club wholesale travel membership
(wrapped in a compensation plan, so its members will literally travel for free and earn a considerable amount of money at the same time!)
Except this "private wholesale club travel membership" is exactly the same as Travelocity.com, which is FREE TO USE. And remember, "you don't need to sell any products" from the FAQ. So where does "earn considerable amount of money" come from?

* A top team helping you to succeed
So you have a bunch of people who wants to "inspire" you to recruit more people, not to actually sell something

* $250 3-5 star hotel travel voucher
Which you can't redeem without paying another $150 as "taxes and processing fees".

* low risk / high return
Low risk? If you ONLY buy ONE position, sure. $250. But often you are encouraged to buy multiple positions. And where is the high return coming from, if you sell nothing?

* TVI Express is verified by Trust Guard which is one of the top Compliance Companies in the US. Address, phone number and legalilties have been successfully verified and you can find a proof of the same by going to the footer of TVI's official website.
TVI Express is one of the few companies what as DISENROLLED by Trust-Guard, back in 2009. There is no Trust-Guard badge on TVI Express website now, and you can verify this yourself by going to trust-guard.com or click on link below
https://secure.trust-guard.com/certificates/www.tviexpress.com

* TVI is duly incorporated and is managing its financial operations wonderfully well. Many people have got their payouts transferred to their Bank Accounts which shows that TVI is not just a website and is a properly managed International Company.
TVI Express is duly incorporated in INDIA and CYPRUS, yet claims to be "headquartered in London, UK" when it has no office in London at all.
Pyramids can pay for a while before it collapses.

* TVI's office is on the Business listing of Google and if any business has to be listed on google, they need to get themselves verified. This is another fact that count towards the legitimacy of the Organization.
TVI Express's listing on Google is "owner-verified", which means they verified it themselves, NOT by Google. See for yourself... says "photo provided by owner"

* They have been backed by World Choice Travel to provide Travel inventory to its members which is also the backing company of two more Multi Millionaire Brands.
Yet what exactly *does* TVI Express sell through distributors to outside? Memberships, NOT travel. Their FAQ says very clearly: "you do not need to sell any products." "You need to recruit two people, and teach each to recruit two more people."  As you need to sell nothing, having a reliable provider of travel to sell also means nothing.

So what has Mr. John Piro proved?
  1. He either doesn't understand TVI Express, or doesn't care that it sells nothing
  2. He works with outdated facts (Trust-Guard Customer Support told me that TVI Express was dis-enrolled back in Fall 2009)
  3. He does absolutely NO fact checking of his own statements (about Google business listing as "verified by Google" when it is actually owner-verified)
  4. He dangles $$$ in front of you three times, yet has no idea where does the money come from
  5. He used logical fallacy "if it pays, it must be legit" to "prove" TVI Express is legit. He failed to consider that pyramid scheme will pay for a while, until the scheme collapses due to lack of new victims.
Sorry, but he's not very convincing.

American TV Station Highlights TVI Express Scam

Better Business Bureau logo.Image via Wikipedia
ABC2 out of Baltimore, Maryland highlighted TVI Express, offered to put their side of story on the tube, got nothing in return.
"..But before you pay the fee and start looking for destinations, Angie Barnett with the Better Business Bureau says beware, "You continue to see telltale signs of concern about this business." The business is TVI Express or Travel Ventures International, a company that's currently recruiting Marylanders to join their team through online presentations sent by emails."

Did ACCC really lose 20 cases straight?

Schematic description of the expasion of the e...Image via Wikipedia
TVI Express supporters claim that ACCC, which charged TVI Team Oz with running a pyramid scheme, had lost 20 cases straight, made it sound as if it is a bungling bureaucracy, the most notable case being against ACN.

As usual, TVI Express supporters cite only part of the truth. Did they mention over how many YEARS are those 20 losses counted? Did not.

"For your knowledge, ACCC has lost all 20 cases in one go. Ours will be 21st."

Nobody can actually produce the statistic or newspaper report that ACCC had lost 20 lawsuits in a row. It was merely recited as if it is fact, but never proven. I'll gladly eat my words when someone *do* produce that report, but until then, I am wary of anything TVI Express supporters say. Too many of them have lied too many times for me to trust anything they say without actual citings.

You can read ACCC's annual performance report yourself. It is a government agency, and it is required to publish one every year. The most recent report, 2008-2009, is available on their website. On page 35 and on, you'll see the actual performance in that "fiscal year". Here's a summary:
In the year 2008-2009 alone, ACCC had

launched 17 lawsuits, and accepted 5 settlements regarding anti-competitive conduct
launched 4 lawsuits regarding unconscionable conduct
launched 27 lawsuits and accepted 62 settlements regarding consumer protection
launched 2 more lawsuits to force compliance in other areas
plus multiple contempt of court charges against those who violated court injunctions

That is 50 lawsuits that year ALONE. Even if they had lost 20 out of 50, that still leaves them with 30 wins, or 60% win rate, not 0% as TVI Express supporters imply.

The win rate runs into the 90% if you include the settlements.
Who's telling the whole truth? Certainly not TVI Express supporters.

Further research on ACCC turned up a study by Australian Consumer Policy that studied the efforts of ACCC from 1997 to 2002. In those 5 years, investigated 391 different matters. 9 were dropped, insufficient evidence. Of the rest, only 8 were completely lost, and 4 were partially successful.

That means out of 391 matters, 21 were not resolved to ACCC's satisfaction. That's a success rate of 94% from 1997 to 2002. If you count the partials, that number increases to 95%.

ACCC: not the bungling bureaucracy that TVI Express supports want you think it is.

As for comparison with ACN, it's been discussed in a different place.

http://hubpages.com/hub/TVI-Express-Member-Lies-Vol-7

TVI Team Oz violated TWO court orders, according to ACCC

From the press release issued by ACCC, TVI Team Oz violated two separate court orders that froze various accounts, AFTER the court order was issued, by emptying the accounts throw multiple transactions from different branches. This is a deliberate act of contempt, and hearing was set for July 14th, 2010. No update as the result of the hearing on these contempt charges.

Yep, some TVI Express people in Australia "saw the writing on the wall" (go look it up) and chose NOT to behave like morons, like TVITeamOz (who tried to empty their bank account AFTER it was frozen by court injunction), and decided to move onto something else instead of doing something illegal!

ACCC is taking TeamTVIOz back to court for contempt

TVI Express is in even more trouble in Australia... Their local rep, TeamTVIOz, is summoned back to court. ACCC, the agency that got the court injunction against them, is alleging that TeamTVIOz is violating the court injunction that froze their bank account, and is seeking contempt of court charges, and that *could* include spending time in a real jail cell.

http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/352804/alleged_online_pyramid_schemer_taken_court_again/?fp=16&fpid=1

Something to think about:

* Why would they do something this stupid? Contempt of court can include JAIL TIME
* Didn't Tarun Trikha, TVI Express advisory member, as claimed on Indonesia TVI Express website, promised support? (I'll have to check that. It could just be moral support.)
* Didn't they hire attorneys? Didn't the attorneys know better?
* Why would they need to move any funds, except to run?

EDIT: Another newspaper reported that the Perps in Australia emptied their account of $40000 back in late May, AFTER the court injunction.

Due to egregious nature of the perps in defiance of court order, and rumors spreading (probably by TVI Express supporters) that the charges have been dropped, the hearing will be held on August 30, 2010, which is amazingly fast, even for Australia and ACCC. That is correct... CHARGES HAVE NOT BEEN DROPPED. CHARGES ARE CONTINUING, and now will include JAIL TIME.

"Maverick" decided to join the fray, but who is he really?

A person using pseudonym "Maverick" decided to leave me some nasty comment on my hub "TVI Express: an international scam". I am reproducing the comment below in order to analyze it fully.

First, he posted from 115.240.73.208. That traces to an ISP in Bombay, India. We will assume he is from India for now.

Second, the comment is reproduced below. The only change is I am numbering each sentence, so we can analyze them one by one. Keep in mind this is his second message.

what a loser you are ks chang. (1)  in todays time when most people are finding it diffcult to make ends meet because they are being paid so poorly by people 'WHO OWN COMPANIES' (2) ( BY THE WAY YOU HAVENT TOLD ME THE NAME OF YOUR COMPANIES IN YOUR REPLY). (3)  Anyway in these times here comes a company called TVI who clearly states what you have to do and how you would be compensated, helpss people earn money and helps them to start living life instead of just going through the process of living. TVI Express supporter suggests kicking himself out of TVI Express for ethical violations

It is interesting what TVI Express supporters will do to support their cause, often by doing the exactly wrong things. Sometimes, they use so much faulty logic and lie so much, they paint themselves into a corner.

EmJay07 is one such example. He previously declared that he personally testifies that TVI Express does have a code of conduct, and violators are kicked out, even though he can't prove it beyond his own testimony, or produce such a "code of conduct" that is publicly viewable.

Then he proceed to clone a TVI Express announcement, which, according to TVI Express website, one should NOT do. And when I pointed that out, he loudly proclaimed that he did it INTENTIONALLY.

Thus, according to himself, TVI Express should kick him out. Right?  (or admit he lied about such code of conduct)
